In addition to Emirates’ huge deals with Boeing and Safran at this week’s Dubai Airshow, the airline has also signed up for in-flight entertainment (IFE) systems from Thales. The deal will see Emirates equip its Boeing 777X aircraft (deliveries start in 2025) with Thales’ AVANT Up IFE systems. In 2022 Emirates also selected AVANT Up for its new A350 fleet.
The AVANT Up system features Optiq QLED smart displays, the 4K HDR monitors having capability to show more than a billion colours. The growing demand for in-seat power will be met by the Pulse power management function, which includes high-speed USB-A and USB-C charging ports at each seat.
Passengers will be able to enjoy content on Emirates’ ‘ice’ system, including the usual TV shows and movies, live TV, and new options for streamed events and DVR.
Customers can also pair their Bluetooth device (such as a smartphone or tablet) to view their own content on the seatback, while also charging the device. They can also seamlessly sync their personal devices with the IFE screen to provide a multi-screen experience.
Emirates has also chosen several AVANT Up digital services, including personalisation features with curated recommendations. The system will also feature user interfaces that enable visually impaired passengers to have an immersive experience.
