Trelleborg Sealing Solutions, a subsidiary of Trelleborg Group, has signed an agreement to acquire MG Silikon GmbH, an aerospace interiors company that is part of Saint-Gobain Group. MG Silikon, based in Lindau, Germany, specialises in sealing solutions for aerospace such as seals for airframes, windows and cabins, and for industrial applications.
Torben Anderson, aerospace segment director at Trelleborg Sealing Solutions, stated, “With the acquisition of MG Silikon, we increase the production capacity of airframe seals and create an even more complete product portfolio for aerospace applications. We expand our silicone-based sealing solutions offering for cabin interiors, which is a strategic growth area for us, and we access new value-creating products such as injection-moulded seals for aircraft windows.
“This acquisition strengthens Trelleborg’s position in the aerospace industry, with the transaction expected to be finalised in the fourth quarter of 2022, subject to approvals from relevant authorities.”
Trelleborg says the aerospace market is expected to show strong growth in the coming years and that aircraft manufacturers and other stakeholders are pursuing projects that make the industry more sustainable through the use of materials that make aircraft lighter and more aerodynamic, increase engine efficiency, and decrease overall emissions. Trelleborg’s strategy is to support these measures through the development of lightweight materials that are an alternative to aluminium, with a long product life.
