April 12, 2016 – Aircraft cabin lighting specialist, STG Aerospace, has been granted Design Organisation Approval (DOA) status by EASA (the European Aviation Safety Agency).
Achieving DOA is a significant milestone for STG Aerospace and complements the company’s existing EASA Production Organisation Approval EASA.UK.21G.2540. With the addition of this new approval STG Aerospace is now able to develop, produce and certify all new products within the company with the benefit of full oversight and reduced timescales, thereby meeting customer expectations.
As part of the EASA audit that led to the granting of DOA status, STG Aerospace was required to deliver a full presentation on the company’s capabilities and procedures, undertake specific staff training and define a number of key internal roles and responsibilities. As a result, Dr Sean O’Kell, the company’s director of innovation, now also has the official title of head of design, and Dale Williams, certification manager, is now also chief of the office of airworthiness at STG.
O’Kell commented: “The DOA will extend our capability and simplify the route for certification approval. Historically we have always had to use external DOAs to complete the certification process on our behalf, but having DOA status will significantly extend our capabilities, reduce timescales and streamline the product development process.”
