100 organisations have been identified as being the most innovative companies in the world. The list, compiled by Clarivate (a specialist in intellectual property services) based on intellectual property filings, saw Safran come in at 46th position. This international recognition follows Safran’s ranking as the number one patent filer in France in 2022 and 2023.
Safran may be at the lower end of the top 50, but the competition is impressive. The top five spots were taken, in descending order, by Samsung Electronics, Canon, Honda, Toyota and Seiko Epson. Airbus took 34th place, and Safran came ahead of Volkswagen (49th), Boeing (51st), and Thales (77th). In all, Safran has more than 15,000 inventions covered by nearly 51,500 intellectual property titles, and more than 1,200 Safran Group inventions are patented on a yearly basis.
This is the 11th year in a row that Safran Group has appeared on this list. For the first time, Clarivate has decided to create a ranking from this list, basing itself on four criteria: the number of patents published by the organisation, their quality, their international scope, and their influence.
“This spot among the 50 most innovative companies in the world attests not only to the vitality of our teams, but also to the efficiency of our innovation strategy. This innovation strategy notably relies on significant and regular investment in R&D – in particular on solutions that contribute to sustainable development – and on the special attention paid to the formalisation and protection of inventions by all stakeholders,” commented Jean-Marc Brunel, Safran Group’s director of intellectual property.
