Visitors to Aircraft Interiors Expo (AIX) have the opportunity to experience the newly developed Playground, a unique interactive platform that provides designers with tools to facilitate the specification of Sekisui Kydex thermoplastics for aircraft cabin projects.
CMF (colour, material, and finish) is an important way for cabin designers to enhance the onboard customer experience, and the Playground is an innovative way for Sekisui Kydex to showcase its thermoplastic materials to global aviation designers, bringing the decision process into the digital age.
Following AIX 2024, Sekisui Kydex joined forces with DeepBlue Studios to bring its vision for the platform to reality, creating a suite of specialised digital tools designed to enhance remote communication, educate decision-makers on decorative options, and help reduce errors in the material specification.
The Playground space provides the flexibility designers need without the barriers traditionally associated with collaborative remote working. The application enables decision-makers to visualise various CMF options on a seat model, save or share a project, and swiftly optimise their creation, wherever they are in the world.
You can read more about Playground in the Design Showcase issue of Aircraft Interiors International.

Playground is a digital extension of Sekisui Kydex’s ‘designLab’ innovation centre, bringing in a unique augmented reality capability that enables real-time, high-resolution 3D model viewing at a 1:1 scale. Users can play with the CMF, textures, and Kydex’s Infused Imaging technology on the model.
Users are guided with an interactive summary that offers key information, prompts decisions, and indicates progress. This process helps ensure the correct materials are specified so that designers and their airline clients can focus on creative expression in the knowledge that the material specifications are correct.
Karyn McAlphin, creative design lead at Sekisui Kydex, explained, “With the increased emphasis on CMF to enhance the inflight passenger experience, designers are actively seeking new tools to swiftly identify project parameters and determine which aspects lend themselves to successful innovation. The Playground can help simplify the specification process and encourage users to explore more creative solutions, where applicable.”
