Gruppo Mastrotto, an Italy-based leather tanner and supplier for aviation designers and manufacturers, has created a new collection of hygienic leathers. The Mercury 99.9 range has been developed specifically for aviation and contains an antibacterial and antiviral treatment, which acts as a surface barrier claimed by the company to be up to 99.9% effective following lab tests.
Mercury 99.9 is a soft nappa leather of European origin, with a natural grain and a soft and elegant drape, which meets the FAA’s flammability specifications. The leather is available in 36 colours, and is available from stock for delivery worldwide within 48 hours.
The Mercury 99.9 range is also produced sustainably, as Gruppo Mastrotto purchases all its electricity from renewable sources and has energy-efficient production processes, with all four of its cogeneration systems producing combined heat and power. The company has 18 factories worldwide, with 13 in Italy’s leather-producing district of Arzignano (Vicenza) and one in Santa Croce sull’Arno (Pisa), and in the wider world, has facilities in Brazil, Indonesia, Tunisia and Mexico.
The company’s leather received ‘biobased’ certification from the USDA (US Department of Agriculture), with Gruppo Mastrotto becoming the first tanning company in the world to obtain this award.
