Element Materials Technology (Element) can now offer lightning test and consultancy having acquired Cobham Technical Services Lightning Testing & Consultancy from Chelton.
The test facility in Abingdon, UK, offers these services to the aerospace and defense markets. Its capabilities include DO160/ED14 Section 23 testing aero-structures for the effects of direct lightning strikes.
There is a laboratory for lightning simulation, used to test for the indirect effects on electrical equipment and systems, while also offering high voltage testing of antennas and windscreens of up to 500kV. The company’s 11 experts consult during the design and certification of aircraft lightning protection.
“We are delighted to welcome Cobham Technical Services Lightning Testing & Consultancy, a recognized leader in the lightning test and consultancy business, to Element,” said Rick Sluiters, executive vice president, aerospace, at Element.
“This acquisition adds direct lighting testing to our capabilities, which means that we are now able to offer the full suite of DO160 services, enabling time-to-market advantages through shorter testing turnaround times – saving our customers time and money.”
