Sport 24, a live sports channel offered exclusively to the airline and cruise line industries, has announced that it will broadcast the first Fortnite World Cup 2019, taking place on 26 – 28 July at the Arthur Ashe Tennis Stadium in New York.
Sport 24 Extra will show more than 15 hours across the weekend on international flights. The Fortnite World Cup Finals will be the culmination of 10 weeks of global online qualification rounds. This event marks a record breaking esports prize pool, with US$10m of prize money being distributed during qualification rounds, $30m being handed out at the Fortnite World Cup Finals in New York, as well as a further $3m available for the Fortnite World Cup Creative Mode.
Richard Wise, SVP, Channels and Content, IMG Media, commented: “Fortnite is recognised as a global phenomenon and we are excited to be broadcasting live coverage to passengers across the full three days.”
The deal was negotiated by IMG, which is distributing the rights on behalf of Epic Games, the game developer and publisher of the popular Fortnite game franchise. All content will be delivered via a digitally encoded stream (RTMP Feed) from IMG Studios’ production base just outside of London.
