The world’s first live broadcast from a commercial Airbus A380 flight has been acheieved by Singapore Airlines (SIA) in a partnership with Sky Sports. The event saw Sky Sports presenter, Craig Slater interview Ruth Buscombe, senior strategy engineer for the Alfa Romeo Racing Formula One team, on their flight to Singapore for this year’s Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix.
The live broadcast took place on board A380 flight SQ345 from Zurich to Singapore on 18 September, with the flight departing at 11.45am (local time) and the live broadcast taking place at 1.30pm airing on Sky Sports. The flight arrived at Singapore’s Changi Airport at 6.15am local time (11.15pm British Summer Time).
The broadcast was made via the in-flight wi-fi connectivity portal, powered by SITAONAIR’s high-speed Internet ONAIR over GX Aviation system.
