While airlines are striving to increase ancilliary revenues, they face an important issue since their customers expect a flawless passenger experience. Young French startup company, PXCom, believes it has a solution that can provide airlines with a new revenue stream while enhancing the passenger experience through innovative and interactive IFE.
PXCom claims it has found a way for airlines to monetise their existing IFE systems by creating “advertainment channels” for passengers to explore. These theme-based channels offer a variety of services to passengers, using multimedia applications as a form of advertising.
The company has found that consumers can feel bombarded by publicity, and expect a break from pop-ups and telemarketers during their trip. It has also found that 80% of passengers use their flight time to read guidebooks and plan the details of their trip. Thus, one of the theme channels PXCom has developed is a destination guide which uses multimedia applications to give passengers the information they need to prepare prior to landing. Passengers can explore city guides for Paris, New York, Singapore or Abu Dhabi, and learn about the latest museum exhibitions, must-see destinations, and other events and promotions.
Using this basic principle, the company says that airlines can add advertisers and create a package of channels providing a range of services, such as real estate, wines, luxury items, etc, as well as creating a further sales boost if onboard ticketing/concierge sales are offered by the airline.
