March 12, 2017 – IMG has secured the renewal of its inflight and inship media rights deal with DFL Deutsche Fußball Liga e.V., represented by its sales subsidiary DFL Sports Enterprises GmbH, to distribute Bundesliga live coverage and non-live programming of the top German football league to airlines around the world.
The three-year deal, which will begin with the 2017/18 season, will include coverage of at least 160 live matches per season as well as several Bundesliga preview and highlights shows across Sport 24 and Sport 24 Extra, the IMG-owned and produced 24/7 channels for the inflight industry.
Richard Wise, VP at IMG Media said, “The Bundesliga is extremely popular with inflight passengers, and we are delighted to have renewed our rights agreement with them. The German top league is a very strong product and provides outstanding live action in front of passionate and packed stadiums for our passengers across the world.”
Patrick Stüber, sales manager for audiovisual rights in the Americas & EMEA for DFL Sports Enterprises added: “This signing is a reflection of the success we have had in seeing the Bundesliga positioned as an inherent part of the inflight entertainment program and our trust in the professional collaboration with IMG. With their Sport 24 and Sport 24 Extra channels, IMG provides an ideal environment for the Bundesliga to promote further growth, also by offering inflight passengers even more exciting Bundesliga matches on a live basis from season 2017/18 onwards.”
Sport 24, which was launched in 2012, is exclusively available on Panasonic’s eXTV television network using the company’s eXConnect in-flight Ku-band communications service.
