Anuvu, a provider of inflight entertainment and connectivity systems, has signed an exclusive agreement with Ryff, a specialist in AI-powered scene intelligence software. The agreement is for inflight entertainment content to be screened for compliance using a machine-learning AI platform designed specifically for Anuvu.
With the prior approval of the owner of each IFE content title, such as a TV show or movie, Anuvu will use Ryff’s AI tool to review and flag content that may be sensitive or offensive to viewers, and ensure compliance with diverse global content standards.
The origins of Ryff’s AI screening platform are in virtual product placement, where it has been used to identify storylines and moments within content into which brands can digitally integrate their products and services. With the Anuvu contract, the capabilities of Ryff’s AI platform have been extended to the compliance and brand safety industry.
The platform’s advanced algorithms analyse content with consistent accuracy, reducing the risk of human error, while also accelerating the turnaround times required for compliance checks – minutes instead of hours, according to Estibaliz Asiain, EVP of media & content at Anuvu. The Ryff AI platform can also handle unlimited volumes of content, making it useful for airlines with extensive inflight entertainment catalogues.
The intelligence of the AI platform also increases in line with the volume of content it screens, becoming faster and more accurate over time.
“Compliance is becoming more important than ever. With contentious cultural, geo-political and religious issues, we know our airline clients are in a difficult position, wanting to be sensitive to everyone’s needs while also catering to their diverse passenger demographics,” stated Kosh Hussain, VP of content operations at Anuvu. “We currently have the most experienced compliance team in the industry, providing compliance services to multiple airlines. However, we want to do more. We knew AI was the answer and Ryff has the speed, accuracy and learning capabilities in their bespoke platform to maintain our high standards.”
“Designed to scale, Ryff’s AI platform becomes increasingly more intelligent the more content it screens, which means not only is this arduous process accelerated from day one, but it continues to get faster and more accurate over time,” added Mar Duermeijer, chief content officer at Ryff. “It sets new benchmarks for content compliance screening, and we are delighted to be partnering with Anuvu to deliver this to their aviation clients, and to the entire inflight entertainment industry.”
