New Caledonia-based airline, Aircalin, has installed the BoardConnect wireless infotainment system from Lufthansa Systems on its new Airbus A320. On flights from the airline’s base at La Tontouta International Airport in Nouméa to destinations in Oceania, Australia and New Zealand, passengers can now use their own personal devices to access a range of movies, music, games and infotainment via a wi-fi network.
Didier Tappero, CEO of Aircalin, stated, “BoardConnect will allow us to enter a new dimension of in-flight entertainment. Our guests will enjoy the best in-flight entertainment and extensive infotainment. With BoardConnect on our new Airbus A320, we are proud to bring such brand new technology to our passengers on our short and medium-haul routes.”
The BoardConnect system requires no complicated wiring to permanently install screens in each seat, which means it can be installed during regular maintenance checks. In addition to the entertainment options, the system is technically equipped to provide Internet access during a flight. BoardConnect works with a regular WLAN based on the established wi-fi standard, meaning that just a few access points needs to be installed in the cabin to deliver a broad variety of content including high-quality streaming media to every passenger. BoardConnect can be used with iOS, Android and conventional Windows devices including Windows 8 operating system.
