Media Carrier has been successful in an international tender process for Air Astana’s ‘Digital Press Service’, which will see it provide its Media Box digital media library to the Kazakhstani airline. As part of the process Air Astana conducted a three-month test run of Media Box to assess its functionality and content.
The Media Carrier contract will give Air Astana extensive digital content, including international newspapers and magazines such as the Financial Times and the International New York Times. The Media Box system can be used with any Internet-capable device, with no requirement for external apps to be installed or additional registrations made.
Passengers will be able to access the digital content via the airline’s website, a pre-flight e-mail, at mobile/web check-in or in the Air Astana App, even before departure. Around 1,000 newspapers and magazines are available for passengers to download free of charge, and other titles can also be downloaded for a fee. All publications are then available to the reader in PDF format in the familiar layout and in the full scope of the print edition and can also be read offline.
“The use of digital media has taken on a new significance with Corona,” stated Aigerim Zhambyl, project manager at Air Astana. “In particular, the hygiene aspect of each passenger using only their own mobile phone or tablet without contact has been a decisive argument for us to expand our range of digital services.”
