December 9, 2015 – Back in August, Satcom Direct (SD) became the first business aviation communications distribution partner to provision its services and to transmit data over Inmarsat’s new Ka-band Global Xpress network via the Inmarsat-5 F-1 satellite. In another first, this month has seen the company become the first to validate its services over the Inmarsat-5 F-2 (I-5 F-2) satellite.
SD’s Jet ConneX is a high-speed broadband service for business aviation, which operates over Inmarsat’s new Global Xpress (GX) constellation. When globally deployed the service will support high data rate applications in flight, including streaming YouTube videos and Skype video calls, in real time. The I-5 F-2 satellite serves the Atlantic Ocean Region.
The Jet ConneX service affords operators further opportunities, such as managing and maximizing bandwidth, improving voice call quality, and prioritizing passenger data.
“Aircraft operators want and need the fastest possible data speeds in the air. SD is out in front in proving that our services are ready for the next generation networks as soon as they are available to customers,” said Jim Jensen, SD founder and CEO.
