Gogo Business Aviation has announced that more than 1,000 system software updates of its Avance inflight connectivity systems have been successfully completed using Gogo’s over-the-air (OTA) feature. OTA was launched in conjunction with Avance software update v4.4 and has become the fastest-adopted software update in Gogo’s 30-year history.
OTA replaces the USB kit method of system updates, which required fleet operators to physically plug into each aircraft for each update. Instead, OTA system updates are delivered through a wireless network, in a remote, hands-free process that can be deployed for all aircraft in a fleet simultaneously. The OTA function is available to Avance customers via the Gogo Dash an app-based toolkit – and when used with a Gogo Cloudport automatic update device, upgrade times are cut by 83%, according to Gogo.
“OTA addresses the largest problem we’ve heard from our fleet customers: updating aircraft positioned around the world. OTA eliminates this logistical issue and makes access to our most up-to-date and value-add features easier than ever,” said Sanjeev Nagpal, senior vice president of product management at Gogo.
OTA will also be deployed to support antenna software updates on Gogo’s upcoming Gogo Galileo and Gogo 5G products.
