July 30, 2015 – In addition to iPhone compatability, Satcom Direct has added Android compatability to its GlobalVT app, which enables passengers to use their number on their smartphone, in-flight, anywhere in the world.
Powered by the proprietary GlobalVT service and the exclusive Satcom Direct Router, passengers are connected to the appropriate network coverage, facilitating calls and SMS text messages during all phases of flight, from taxi to takeoff, to landing.
“Satcom Direct is the first to enable Android users to make and receive calls and texts in the air, worldwide, with their own number. This is a significant accomplishment and we’re proud to have made it happen,” said Jim Jensen, founder and CEO of Satcom Direct.
By replacing their existing ‘end of life’ (or ‘last generation’) onboard router with the SDR at their next maintenance event, flight departments can add GlobalVT to their communications capabilities. The SDR interfaces with current networks, and can also work with future networks including Ka, Ku and L-Band, and other new networks in development. STCs are available for most major airframes.
The GlobalVT mobile app is available on Google Play and on the App Store.
