EL AL Israel Airlines is entertaining passengers on its one new Boeing 737-900 and two Boeing 767-300 aircraft with the BoardConnect wireless IFE system from Lufthansa Systems. The system allows passengers to use their own tablet, laptop or smartphone during a flight to access a range of movies, music, games and infotainment via a wi-fi network. Further Boeing 737s and Boeing 767s in the EL AL fleet will gradually be equipped with BoardConnect.
EL AL CEO David Maimon stated, “EL AL is one of the first airlines in the world and the first in Europe to offer streaming service on routes to and from Europe, providing an innovative informational and entertainment experience. With entertainment such an integral part of flying today, we at EL AL undertook to invest in this state-of-the-art upgrade on our aircraft.”
BoardConnect brings in-flight infotainment to work with a regular WLAN based on the established wi-fi standard. Depending on aircraft size, BoardConnect needs only two to five access points in the cabin to deliver a variety of content including lagging-free streaming media to every passenger. It can be used with iOS, Android and conventional Windows devices including the Windows 8 operating system.
