June 19, 2015 – V-Nova, a signal compression solutions provider, demonstrated the image, video and telemetry capabilities of its Perseus signal compression technology in the Airbus Group Pavilion at Paris Air Show, as part of the Group’s ‘Airbus Group Experience’ 3D virtual reality demonstration.
According to V-Nova, Perseus offers benefits in signal compression, processing speed and signal quality. For example, in emerging video applications, which typically drive over 80% of communications network traffic, Perseus is claimed to effectively shift the entire bitrate-quality curve, enabling UHD video at HD bitrates, HD at SD bitrates, and SD video at sub-audio bitrates.
According to Guido Meardi, V-Nova’s CEO, Perseus takes advantage of principles found in nature and, specifically, the way humans and other species process sensory information. “The result is a system which can increase signal processing speed, compression and quality – sometimes even by orders of magnitude – using the existing and commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware, ecosystem, and workflows. Perseus’ interoperability with existing legacy codecs and encryption standards is a major additional benefit not offered by other solutions.”
Perseus has been developed and tested over the past five years within an Open Innovation, interoperable coalition of over 20 global companies including Broadcom, Dell, Encompass, Hitachi, Intel, Sky Italia, TataSky, VisualOn and WyPlay. The software is currently offered in the form of bundled hardware, embedded software, codec plug-ins and silicon IP.
