Mexico’s flag carrier airline, Aeromexico, is introducing a new amenity kit in October, designed to meet passenger expectations for sustainability. The kits have been created in partnership with Formia, the airline amenity specialist, Italian fashion brand Etro, and Gen Phoenix (previously known as ELeather), a UK-based circular materials company that is supplying recycled leather for the kits.
The recycled leather material is made from leather offcuts that would otherwise have ended up in landfill. People in the aircraft interiors sector may be familiar with the company’s recycled leather, which has been used on more than four million aircraft seats worldwide to date.
The kits are an environmentally conscious continuation of Aeromexico’s collaboration with Etro, and will contain a branded eye mask and slippers made from recycled PET fabrics; responsibly produced items including a toothbrush and comb made with wheatstraw; and a pocket-sized Field Notes notebook made from recycled paper; and a lip balm and body lotion presented in a paper box crafted from FSC-certified recycled paper.
Nico den Ouden, chief commercial officer at Gen Phoenix said of the kits: “It’s inspiring for the industry to see Aeromexico prioritising responsible choices in their interior and expanding the use of recycled materials into every detail of the passenger experience. This partnership, together with Formia, sets a precedent for other airlines to create a more sustainable flying experience that eco-conscious travellers can enjoy.”
