Trelleborg, a specialist in engineered polymers, has expanded its aerospace capabilities with the acquisition of Magee Plastics, a company specialising in high-performance thermoplastic and composite materials for aircraft interiors.
Magee Plastics, with 100 employees based in Warrendale, Pennsylvania, USA, will add cutting-edge expertise in thermoforming and vacuum forming to the Trelleborg portfolio. The acquisition was finalised in December by Trelleborg Group, for an undisclosed sum. In 2023 Magee recorded sales of approximately US$20.66 million.
Magee’s cabin products include window shades and assemblies, sidewall panels, passenger consumer units and air grilles, ceiling panels, cargo area panels, seat parts, lavatory and galley components, flight deck equipment, and entire cabin retrofit interior systems.
“By adding cutting-edge expertise in thermoforming and vacuum forming, this acquisition strengthens Trelleborg’s position in aerospace,” said Gordon Roper, president of Trelleborg’s global aerospace business unit. “It also generates favourable sales synergies in the growing interior fittings sector.
“The Magee business also includes a Federal Aviation Authority FAA145-certified service workshop that increases Trelleborg´s share of aftermarket services and further strengthens customer relationships.”
The Trelleborg team notes that the aerospace industry is “expected to experience strong growth for many years”. In order to meet this growing demand, Trelleborg is making bolt-on acquisitions and investing in increasing capacity in its existing operations.
In May 2024, the company announced an investment in a state-of-the-art facility in Morocco for the production of sealing solutions for the aerospace industry. Construction has started, and the facility will begin operations by the end of 2025.
