Panasonic Avionics Corporation, a developer and supplier of in-flight entertainment and connectivity (IFEC) technologies for the aviation sector, has opened an additional software centre of excellence, located in Portland, Oregon, USA. The Portland centre launches with a core team of software engineers that specialise in Linux and Android operating systems, to support the development of next-generation software platforms.
The centre is intended to further augment Panasonic Avionics’ global software capabilities for the airline industry. The company also has software development facilities in Irvine, California; Malmö, Sweden; Osaka Japan; and Pune, India. The Pune facility, which was launched in July 2024, was then further strengthened with the addition of a software support team in Mumbai.
Panasonic says the Portland centre will play a crucial role in driving innovation, and will benefit from the region’s talent pool of skilled software engineers and developers, The site will be used to enhance the company’s existing software capabilities, and to accelerate the development of new IFEC experiences for airlines and their passengers. By leveraging cutting-edge solutions and self-service enterprise software tools, the centre aims to streamline operations and reduce the lifecycle costs associated with IFEC technologies.
