May 18, 2015 – Things are hotting up at EBACE 2015 (the European Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition in Geneva, Switzerland, as Lufthansa Technik shows its design study of a ‘Fireless Fireplace’ for VIP and executive jets.
Many private customers wish to have an interior in the aircraft which is as cozy their living room at home, but regulatory authorities are somewhat unenthusiastic about the fitment of fireplaces into aircraft. However, Lufthansa Technik’s Fireless Fireplace offers the look and sounds of a real fireplace without any actual fire.
The concept uses a technology which simulates a fire by illuminating water mist combined with an illuminated imitation of burning wood. This creates a 3D impression of a real fire, while the “flame” is cold. the heat, sound and the intensity of the flame can be adjusted by a remote control. The Fireless Fireplace weighs around 30kg excluding the surrounding interior design, and power consumption is up to 1,300W.
We’d love to see the fireplace fitted in commercial jet onboard lounges flying on colder routes, where it could add a warm ambience. It’s just a shame you can’t toast a marshmallow in it.
