Retail inMotion has developed a ‘Crew Food App’ for airlines, which enables flight and cabin crew members to choose and order their own meals before flights. The app is also integrated into catering production and logistics systems, and enables crew members to choose the flight they wish to have their meal delivered to, select a meal from a choice of food categories, and pay with their credit or debit card.
Crew can follow the status of their orders in the app, and when the status of an order changes as it goes through the preparation and delivery process, they get an update via email and an in-app notification. Orders can be created or amended up to one hour before the planned departure of the flight, after they have enjoyed their meal – or not – they can rate their meal experience, with criteria including delivery, taste and quality via a star-rating system and feedback.
In the back-office of the app, program administrators can manage factors such as food categories, products, prices and availability. The app has been live with an as-yet unnamed first customer since May 2018.
