Many in Europe are feeling a little football fever, and as the Euro 2024 reaches the final stages, passengers on board easyJet flights during match times will be kept updated with the latest scores of the semi-final and final matches.
With England or the Netherlands set to compete this evening for the remaining place in the final against Spain (the winners of last night’s semi-final), easyJet customers onboard flights to and from these countries during the matches will be provided with score updates, passed directly from the airline’s Operations Control Centre at London Luton Airport.
The scores will be relayed via Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System (ACARS) messages – the only way to communicate with easyJet’s aircraft flying at 38,000 feet – which can then be announced from the flight deck to the passengers onboard.
So whether passengers are ever-expectant England fans hoping their team will win their first UEFA European Football Championship trophy, or Spanish or Dutch fans hoping to reclaim it, participating pilots will be able to make announcements regarding these crunch games.
For those who wish to catch up with the action after they land and don’t want to know the score, there will also be a ‘Match of the Day’ style spoiler alert ahead of any announcement.
easyJet’s director of flight operations, Bart Prudon, said: “As Europe’s leading airline operating hundreds of flights across Europe from the four remaining nations, our pilots will be ensuring hundreds of fans flying during the tournament’s final games can receive the scores as football fever grips Europe this summer.”
