All Nippon Airways (ANA), Japan’s largest airline, has won a 2019 J-Win Diversity Award from the Japan Women’s Innovation Network (J-Win). This annual award was established in 2008 to honor Japanese companies which are advanced in promoting diversity and inclusion. This year, 45 companies applied for the award, with ANA receiving the top rating in the Advanced Achievement Award category, J-Win’s highest honor for companies that embody the organization’s values of furthering women in the workforce.
ANA has refocused its efforts since issuing the ‘ANA Group Diversity & Inclusion Promise’ in 2015. The airline has stated that by establishing clear targets for promoting diversity and through the strengthening of employee networks, it was better able to recognize and reward internal talent. Going forward, ANA has stated that it “remains dedicated to advancing gender equality and continuing to remove barriers for female employees”.
Hiroyuki Kunibu, executive vice president of ANA stated, “As a global ambassador of Japan, ANA strongly believes in bringing the best of Japan to the world. This requires creating an environment where every employee can shine. We have made enormous progress in recent years but are still committed to improving career prospects for female employees. Recognition from J-Win and other respected groups serves as a reminder that our efforts are reaching beyond our company and to Japanese society as a whole.”
ANA was commended in the awards for its senior management commitment and programs aimed at enhancing the work life balance among all staff.
“ANA hopes that its blueprint for enhancing gender equality in the workplace through dedicated hiring practices and open employee forums will help more companies in Japan to tackle this important issue,” said an ANA statement.
