During 2014, Aerolineas Argentinas intends to linefit eight new Boeing 737-800s with Panasonic’s eXW wireless IFE system, making it the first Latin American airline to introduce wireless in-flight entertainment. The so-equipped B737s will be deployed on domestic flights and mid-range destinations such as those in Brazil, Peru and Chile.
The eXW portal can be configured to airline requirements, including branding and passenger personalisation features. eXW systems will be capable of storing a minimum of 40 full-length multi-language movies, 100 short programmes; 100 audio CDs, electronic newspapers, digital magazines, and cached web content.
Mariano Recalde, president of Aerolineas Argentinas, said, “We’re delighted we can bring the sort of entertainment experience to our short-haul flights which are usually available only to the long-haul passenger. The eXW system will give our customers the sort of experience they only associate with wide-bodied aircraft on a narrow-bodied aircraft.”
