SunExpress, a Turkey-based joint venture between Turkish Airlines and Lufthansa, has signed up as the launch airline for Safran’s Z200 economy class seat. The seats will be line-fitted on SunExpress’s 33 Boeing 737-8 aircraft, with service scheduled to begin in spring 2023.
The seats will feature a large tray table and a literature pocket, and will be trimmed in the airline’s brand colours. A big factor in SunExpress’s choice of seat was its low weight, which the airline hopes will eliminate more than 12,000 tons of CO2 emissions over the next 10 years. Comfort has also been considered, as SunExpress has not selected the base configuration, instead opting for a recline function.
“The comfort of our guests and a sustainable long-term strategy are clearly our focus,” said Nicole Haginger, senior manager of product and customer journey at SunExpress, adding, “With these new seats, which will be in use as of 2023, we are combining both. I am sure that customers will feel even more comfortable on board with us in the future. At the same time, being so light, the seats will make a noticeable contribution to reducing emissions.”
