November 9, 2016 – Recaro Aircraft Seating has been honored in the Best Practice category in the 2016 DIN Prize, an award that recognizes projects that successfully integrate standards into operational processes and workflows.
The company was awarded the prize for “a significant increase in quality and consistent implementation of the latest ISO GPS standards (geometrical product specification and testing) through its geometrical tolerances and the development of a measurement strategy”.
“We achieved the objective of developing a new measurement strategy and establishing new dimensioning for all the safety-related parts of our seats. This is a valuable milestone on our way towards further reducing the rejection rate in our production and enhancing quality. The DIN Prize honors our innovative solutions aimed at saving time and costs,” stated Mirjam Bruhns, director of quality and process management at Recaro Aircraft Seating.
“Recaro introduced the ISO GPS standards, established new functional dimensioning of sheet metal profile joints, and defined the use of geometrical tolerances. Our employees and selected suppliers were introduced to the new system. The goal is to use the new GPS system for all components,” added Johannes Mainhardt, team leader for quality measurement at Recaro.
For 16 years, the DIN Prize has honored innovative solutions. An independent jury of experts from science, research and practice selects the winners. DIN honored the 2016 award winners during the Weltfaktor Normung ceremony in the presence of close to 300 guests in Berlin.
