December 1, 2016 – Recaro Aircraft Seating is investing €13.5 million in the construction of a 6,000 square meter logistics center at its headquarters in Schwaebisch Hall, Germany. The new building is part of a comprehensive plant structure plan which includes numerous investments in buildings, equipment and infrastructure. The start of construction was honored with a groundbreaking ceremony on November 24, and the center will be completed by the end of 2017.
Dr Mark Hiller, CEO of Recaro Aircraft Seating, stated, “This [center] will enable us to meet the requirements of our accelerated growth and the growing number of employees. In the current year alone, we have recruited 55 new employees. The resulting logistics center with a warehouse for 1,400 finished seats also enables us to operate more efficiently, to offer even better services and to enhance the overall service we provide to our customers.”
When it opens in late 2017, the logistics center will feature an automatic high-rack warehouse and will be able to accommodate close to 3,200 pallets and over 39,000 containers in its small-parts warehouse. Additionally, truck access to the logistics center will be redesigned and the recycling depot expanded.
“Recaro’s entire value chain will be strengthened with this expansion project, which will ensure short distances within production and the timely delivery of our products to our customers and partners. With the new infrastructure, we can continue to successfully pursue our global growth strategy in a very dynamic sector,” said Joachim Ley, Recaro’s EVP for supply chain.
