With a product range including the SL3710, BL3710, CL3810 and PL3810, working out which Recaro aircraft seat was being referred to was not entirely intuitive. The names were simple when explained, translating to Smart Line (SL), Basic Line (BL), Comfort Line (CL), und Premium Line (PL), but a little confusing for those unfamiliar with the range.
The company has launched a simplified and clearer approach to product naming at Aircraft Interiors Expo (AIX) 2024, with the seat range now spanning R1 through to R7 (the number increasing with comfort levels, from basic economy to widebody business class).
The new seat names include:
- R1: Formerly SL3710 (short/medium range economy class)
- R2: Formerly BL3710 (short/medium range economy class)
- R3: Formerly CL3810 (medium/long-range economy class)
- R4: Formerly PL3810 (premium class)
- R5: Formerly CL4710 (business class)
- R7: Formerly CL6720 (lie-flat business class)
Diverting slightly, the company is also exhibiting its R Sphere sustainable seat concept at AIX. The design, which was a 2024 Crystal Cabin Award finalist [https://www.aircraftinteriorsinternational.com/news/crystal-cabin-awards-2024-the-winners-are-announced.html], is a test bed for environmentally friendly materials such as cork, wood, and recycled fishing nets, with the goal of aircraft seats becoming 100% recyclable at the end of their life. The Recaro innovation and engineering teams are actively working to certify more recycled materials for use in the company’s seats.
