Mirus Aircraft Seating, the UK-based aircraft seating OEM, reports that its Kestrel seat model received certification from the UK’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) on Monday, 15th April 2024.
Having met the seat safety standards set by the CAA, the Kestrel seat can now be installed in aircraft. Mirus says it is already in talks with a number of launch customers regarding this newly certified model, with announcements expected in the coming months.
Kestrel was first previewed at Aircraft Interiors Expo in 2022 and has since undergone a programme of continual improvements, including reducing the weight to 6.9kg per passenger fully dressed, and enhancing the passenger living space and comfort.
A key part of the seat certification process was M-Test, the company’s onsite UKAS ISO 17025 accredited dynamic test laboratory. Opened in April 2023, M-Test is the UK’s largest commercially available dynamic test facility, and it enabled Mirus to speed-up the certification process. Having an in-house facility also enabled Mirus to carry out more tests than would typically be done through a seat development cycle as the traditional lead-times and costs of using external testing facilities were not a factor.
Marcus Williams, sales & marketing director at Mirus said of the certification: “We are so excited that our latest seat, Kestrel, has received its TSO. From the feedback we are receiving from airlines who are evaluating it against the current offerings in its segment, we are confident that we have now certified what will become the very best seat in its class… We are looking forward to revealing the initial launch customers very soon”.
The Kestrel seat will be showcased at Aircraft Interiors Expo (AIX) 2024 in Hamburg at Stand 6A70.
