Lufthansa Technik has developed an application to save time in seat maintenance. The Seat Cover Tool digitizes the identification of seat cover part numbers – moving away from the traditional process whereby people identify damaged or soiled seat covers, cushions and belts manually, then find the part number so the components can be ordered and replaced.
“With Seat Cover Tool, the part numbers of seat covers that need replacing can now be identified more quickly and easily,” said Stefan Mehler, project manager at Lufthansa Technik.
“We’ve managed to reduce the respective process time from six minutes to less than one minute. In addition, the application is very simple to use and identifies every seat cover part number reliably.”
The application is already supporting cabin maintenance on Lufthansa’s A380 fleet. The company says it could be rolled out to other seat components and all common aircraft types as early as next year. After that version has been proven in service, it will be offered to other MRO companies, for a fee.
Seat Cover Tool works with all current PCs and iOS-based devices (iPads and iPhones). It is intended for mobile and stationary use.
