ZIM's product range includes the ZIMprivacy (PC-02) premium economy seat, for which Lufthansa and SWISS were launch customers

Lufthansa Group has selected ZIM Aircraft Seating’s ZIMprivacy (PC-02) premium economy seat, to be installed on 19 of Lufthansa’s Boing B747-8 aircraft and nine SWISS Airbus A330s. The seat is the new generation of the ZIMmagic PC-01 seat, which Lufthansa Group has installed on select aircraft in the group.

“The award of this project to ZIM Aircraft Seating is a very good sign for the future direction of commercial aviation in the long-lasting Covid-19 crisis and indicates a recovery in flight activities,” stated Sven Achilles, CEO of ZIM Aircraft Seating. “The entire ZIM Aircraft Seating team is very proud that we have hit the right nerve in the market with our new product development of the ZIMprivacy, and that with Lufthansa and SWISS we were able to convince two strong partners as launch customers. The Lufthansa and SWISS order adds to the existing order backlog of ZIM Aircraft Seating and enables a very positive outlook for the next few years.”

The ZIMprivacy seat features a mechanical kinematic enclosed within a fixed backrest shell structure, with an integrated privacy shield improving the feeling of personal space for all passengers. The ZIMprivacy also includes amenities such as individually adjustable armrests, a cocktail table, a single-leaf meal table, a personal reading light, ambient mood lighting and an extra-large IFE screen.

The ZIMprivacy seats will be customised with specification and trim & finish variants for Lufthansa and SWISS to enable each airline to maintain their own cabin branding. The seats will be installed onboard SWISS A340s and B777s in Q1/2022 and will also be installed for Lufthansa in the airline’s new B777-9s, A350s and B787s in the future.

Premium economy class is a new class of travel for SWISS, which entered service in Q4 2021 on the carrier’s 12 long-haul Boeing 777-300ERs, with all aircraft due to be fitted with the new seats by the start of the 2022 summer schedules.
