Acro Aircraft Seating has gained two new orders for its seating range, with potentially more announcements to come following this week’s Aircraft Interiors Expo.
The first is an extension of Acro’s relationship with Saudi Arabian low-cost airline, flyadeal, which has confirmed an upgrade to Acro’s Series 9 economy-class seat, with an order for its upcoming A320neo deliveries in 2024 through to 2026.
The airline is currently flying with Acro’s Series 6 seat, and since April 2021, the airline has taken delivery of 22 shipsets of the seat to flyadeal for its Airbus A320neo aircraft, with a further two shipsets on schedule for delivery this month. Switching to the Series 9 brings further weight, specification and durability benefits for the airline.
“The undoubted success of the Series 6 encouraged us to establish a deeper relationship with Acro Aircraft Seating and we are delighted to confirm this next phase of our ongoing relationship. For us, it is important that our partners should really understand our brand values and that they grasp, with us, the opportunity to continuously improve our offering to passengers,” said Steve Greenway, CEO of flyadeal. “The key is a higher specification, lighter, and more robust seating which our customers will find even more comfortable.”
Volotea opts for Series 9 Recline
Meanwhile the all-new recline option for the Series 9 seat, the S9R, has been taken up by Volotea, the European low-cost airline. The Spain-based carrier is the inaugural customer for the recline version, with a five-year contract for installation in its Airbus A319/A320 fleet. This year, Volotea will incorporate the seat model into up to five aircraft in its fleet, with plans to complete the transition by 2028.
The S9R features a reclining seatback up to 9 degrees, and Volotea’s bespoke version is finished with vegan leather covers with subtle accents of Volotea’s corporate colours on the headrests, a customised high-level literature stowage, and a lower bungee pocket.
Announcing the contract, Neil Cairns, CEO of Acro, said, “We have worked with Volotea since 2015 and we are delighted to have earned their continuing confidence with this latest order. When it came to creating a bespoke and new reclining version of the Series 9 the Volotea team proved themselves to be outstandingly knowledgeable and creative partners and their input is reflected in this fabulous new seat.”
