This two-class interior scheme builds on the brand identity and design language that PriestmanGoode developed for the airline’s short-haul fleet in 2014, with some distinctly South African touches
The bulkhead designs draw upon South Africa’s earthen landscapes
Burnt red is a key color on the cabin palette, adding warmth and vibrancy
The color palette contrasts the dark anthracite of contemporary South African architecture and cityscapes with the rich saturated golden tones of winter sun and earthen landscapes
The business class cabin features a custom Thompson Vantage XL seat. The look is designed in keeping with the business class seat on the A320 program
The shroud for the 15in monitor is designed to give the seat a domestic appearance, including a soft stowage/stand for tablet devices for dual screening
Pattern was central to the materials and finishes across the interiors. A series of bespoke prints, which featured in the A320 design, have been updated in coordination with SAA’s branding agency CUB3D. The prints are inspired by traditional African crafts, textiles, basket weaving and furniture
The personal stowage shroud is designed to create a distinct look for SAA, focusing on integrating seat features such as the passenger reading light and seat controls
Fabric was selcted for the seat upholsterery as SAA believes it provides optimal comfort for long flights. The almost 2m-long bed also helps
SAA has really made the Vantage XL’s styling its own
The upholstered personal stowage area is designed to store small valuable items such as jewelry, mobile phones, etc and there is a specific area for personal notebooks/small laptops
The economy class cabin features a custom Geven seat upholstered in fabric with a bespoke pattern inspired by contemporary African crafts
The economy cabin retains touches of vibrant blue on the headrests and in stitching details, continuing the styling language of the A320 aircraft interiors
