American Airlines’ retrofit upgrade programme for half its Boeing 767-300 fleet is progessing well, with the first retrofitted aircraft due to take its inaugural flight between New York’s Kennedy Airport (JFK) and Zurich Airport (ZRH) on 1 April 2014.
The B767-300 cabins are being modified to offer 28 fully lie-flat business seats, all with aisle access, and with colour and trim which will help create a widebody fleet experience consistent with the airline’s latest B777-300ERs. Other elements of the retrofit project include the installation of new LCD drop-down monitors, new digital audio systems, refreshed lavatories, and new seat covers and cushions in the main cabin.
The business seats will offer individual tray tables with a work surface, and universal AC power outlets. Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 devices will continue to be available for business customers, offering access to a wide variety of movies, TV programmes and audio selections.
The retrofitted 767-300ERs will also feature 25 main cabin ‘Extra’ seats with four to six inches more legroom than a standard main cabin seat, of which there are 156.
