March 23, 2015 – The latest carrier to offer inflight wi-fi is Estonian Air. Nothing new there, but it is using an interesting technology: Dutch company MI Airline’s AirFi system. The system is based around a small box, which can be stowed in a luggage locker, requiring no modification to the aircraft. In the case of Estonian passengers, they do not even have to install an App on their devices before the flight – or pay for the service.

When passengers connect to Estonian Air’s onboard network, they are greeted with a user- friendly portal (shown below) where all information is provided in both English and Estonian. In addition to chatting, playing games and reading magazines and newspapers, travelers can also consult Estonian Air’s bespoke destination guides.
A video of the system in action is available HERE.
