May 19, 2017 – Cyprus Airways has revealed a new livery, which has a slightly different approach to the norm for a flag carrier. The airline commissioned Landor to design an aircraft livery that focuses on the natural beauty of the island alongside traditional cultural symbols of Cyprus, rather than nationalistic symbols.
Pastel shades evoke the hues of the sea surrounding the island, while an olive branch – a distinctive feature of the Cypriot landscape – is depicted on the tailfin. Another Cypriot national symbol, the mouflon, is also subtly included.
Peter Knapp, global creative officer at Landor commented, “We wanted to avoid the stereotype of using traditional look of a flag carrier by celebrating the destination in the work instead of an overt sense of nationalism. The oceans, landscape and history of Cyprus served as the perfect inspiration for our redesign, capturing a sense of the country for passengers before they’ve even arrived. The rebirth of Cyprus Airways presented an opportunity to tell the island’s story in skies all over the world.”
Natalya Popova, Cyprus Airways CCO, added, “We hope that the selected colors and the symbols of Cyprus on our livery will appeal to passengers, which are reminiscent of the unique, peaceful and beautiful atmosphere enjoyed by anyone arriving on the island.
The customer launch of Cyprus Airways’ newly designed fleet, including staff uniforms and cabins, is scheduled for June 2017.
