Taipei-headquartered airline, Starlux, has expanded its contract with Viasat, to bring Viasat’s in-flight connectivity (IFC) technologies across its entire, all-Airbus fleet. The phased rollout will see Viasat in-flight wi-fi services become available to passengers across the fleet of 48 aircraft, including A330-900s, A321neos, A350-900s and A350-1000s.
The newest aircraft will be line-fitted with Viasat’s most advanced connectivity system, based on the ViaSat-3 compatible and multi-orbit-ready GM-40 terminal, while the in-service fleet (which has an average age of 2.06 years) will receive expedited retrofit installations.
Viasat offers a high-capacity Ka-band satellite network over the Asia Pacific region, which will soon also benefit from one of Viasat’s next-generation ViaSat-3 satellites. Starlux passengers are expected to find the technology suitable powerful to enable inflight activities such as streaming entertainment content, browsing the internet, or working.
