Spanish low-cost airline, Iberia Express, has launched a digital in-seat ordering service in order to increase its inflight retail revenues. Passengers can now order food, drinks, and other retail items inflight via their own personal device, using the airline’s Club Express Onboard wireless portal. The orders are then delivered directly to the seat, which is convenient for passengers – and the airline says the service has proved a hit, increasing both passenger satisfaction and revenue.
“We are extremely pleased with the success of the in-seat order service,” said Isabel Rodriguez, commercial director at Iberia Express. “The data speaks for itself: the average order value for purchases made through in-seat ordering is 42% higher than traditional trolley sales, and spend per head on those flights where the new system has been used has increased by 29%, with orders up by 41%.”
The Iberia Express service is powered by Immfly’s retail platform, which is in operation with more than 15 airlines worldwide. In 2014 the airline became the first low-cost carrier to launch the platform, and it has implemented several system updates since then.
