Unum Aircraft Seating’s folding door concept, named ‘Door 2.0 – The Zen Door’ has won the Cabin Service Concept category of the RedCabin Trinity Awards, which took place during the Aircraft Cabin Innovation Summit at Fort Worth, Dallas, on 13th June.
This award comes hot off the heels of Unum’s Cabin Design Concept win at the International Yacht and Aviation Awards, where the Unum One seat was recognised. The door design was also a finalist in the Materials & Components category of the 2024 Crystal Cabin Awards, which took place on 29th May.
Created in a collaboration with MGR Foamtex, the Door 2.0 design is inspired by the Japanese art of origami, or paper folding. This inspiration has been applied to create a lightweight door concept that can be quickly unfolded from its stowed position to create a privacy door. Unum Aircraft Seating is confident that the patented design would not present major certification challenges, and could be a relatively low-cost option.
Alan McInnes, VP of business development at Unum, accepted the accolade at the inaugural RedCabin Trinity Awards ceremony on 13th June during the Aircraft Cabin Innovation Summit in Dallas Fort Worth, Texas. He stated: “This is Unum’s second award in as many weeks – an achievement we are immensely proud of. Door 2.0 represents our commitment to innovative design that prioritises passenger comfort and experience, and underscores the dedication of our team and our partners at MGR Foamtex.”
