SmartSky Networks, a provider of inflight ATG (air-to-ground) connectivity for business aviation, has announced the completion of an STC for the installation of SmartSky hardware on the Cessna Citation X series business jet. The Citation X, of which more than 300 aircraft are in operation, joins a growing list of aircraft types that have already been granted STCs for SmartSky’s ATG service, including Gulfstream, Bombardier Challenger, Embraer and Textron models.
FlyExclusive, the fourth-largest private jet fleet operator globally, performed the hardware installation at its facilities in Kinston, North Carolina. With the hardware installed, the Citation X aircraft made its inaugural flights using SmartSky’s ATG network in June and the FAA supplemental type certification was issued on 12th August, 2022.
The Citation X certification follows SmartSky’s announcement in July that its ATG connectivity is now available nationwide for aircraft flying on routes across the continental United States.
According to SmartSky, additional STCs are in progress to make the service more widely available for business aviation.
