AerQ, the joint venture between LG Electronics and Lufthansa Technik that specialises in cabin technology, has announced collaborations with further partners whose apps and offerings will be available on the Aerena digital platform.
Aerena is designed to create benefits for airlines in terms of revenue, savings and growth, enabled through an open IT platform and cabin touchpoints. The system is designed to facilitate greater passenger engagement onboard aircraft, which can give airlines a deeper understanding of their inflight behaviours and needs. The various partners bring in apps and offerings that airlines can choose from to suit their passenger preferences, in turn creating ancillary revenue possibilities.
The cloud-based and open software architecture of Aerena allows instant onboarding of third-party software, with the latest partners being:
Airfree
Airfree is a French start-up specialising in the digitalisation of onboard shopping, food & beverage, and inflight services. It provides connected airlines with a SaaS e/m-commerce platform designed specifically for inflight use. From their seatback screen or smartphone, passengers can shop for thousands of products, order them during flight, and arrange for delivery at the airport, at home or directly onboard on a current or future flight.
Airfree’s semi-embedded technology enables updated content to be hosted on the aircraft’s servers before each flight for smooth browsing, and real-time transactions and stock checks while using very little Satcom connectivity (100 times less than a ground-based website).

GetYourGuide

Squake
Squake is an easy-to-use API solution that enables travel, logistics and mobility companies to develop sustainable product offerings. The company helps other businesses to calculate CO2 emissions in real-time, and to offer CO2 compensation through a variety of CO2 projects.

These partners will enable airlines flying Aerena to offer passengers the right content, products and experiences at the right time. “Our objective is to have an extensive partner ecosystem across different use cases and industries available on Aerena, there are many more partners to come,” said Arnd Kikker, co-managing director at AerQ.
