ZIM Aircraft Seating is continuing apace with the expansion of its headquarters in Immenstaad on Lake Constance in Germany. The additional office space is now occupied by staff, with the new model shop and design department due to be opened by April 2022. Further work still underway includes an expansion of the headquarters to include an automated test centre and a new customer service area, with modern repair and maintenance facilities.
All in, the expansion amounts to a tripling of ZIM’s activities at the Immenstaad location. This could be considered a bold move as the aviation sector continues its pandemic recovery phase, but at the outset of Covid-19, the ZIM management decided to realign the corporate structure in order to be able to better serve future orders and to increase the efficiency of processes within the company.
Indeed despite the issues experienced by the aviation industry, ZIM says it was able to secure a “large number” of new orders over the past few months. In addition, ZIM expects to see increasing demand for repair and maintenance work on aircraft seats on existing aircraft (the company has more than 100 airline clients), which are now being brought back into service after a long period of standstill due to airline capacity reductions. Some passenger seats were also improperly used for the transport of cargo during the Covid-19 pandemic, which has led to increased wear and tear.
“The investment into our location expansion is a clear commitment to our employees and the region,” stated ZIM CEO, Sven Achilles. “We have a social responsibility that is independent of time, and which we also live up to by creating structures that will make us competitive in the future.”
