The latest figures released by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) indicate that, on 15 May 2020, China’s civil aviation sector operated 10,262 flights, which was about 60% of the number before the Covid-19 outbreak. It is the first time that the number of flights in a single day exceeded 10,000 since 1 February, according to CAAC.
Both passenger traffic and the number of flights in China have dropped sharply since 23 January. On 13 February, the number of daily flights fell to the lowest level since the outbreak, at 3,931, which was about 23% of the number during the normal period.
However, as the outbreak has levelled off across the country, and with the support of relevant policies of the State Council and CAAC, civil aviation transport has gradually recovered since late February. The number of average daily flights stood at 6,538 in March, 6,950 in April and 8,900 in May.
