Burrana has secured a contract to retrofit an unnamed “top-tier” Latin American airline’s A320 and A321 fleets with its In-seat Power units, as part of the airline’s US$400 million investment in updating its aircraft cabin interiors. Under the terms of the contract, Burrana will supply more than 100 aircraft with 2.1A USB and 110V AC in-seat power units in premium economy and USB power in economy class. Five of the fleet’s A320 aircraft have already been fitted with the power units, with retrofits due to continue duting 2019 and 2020.
Burrana’s In-seat Power solution offers an innovative approach without compromising on space, weight, ergonomics or aesthetics. The reversible USB outlet ensures that passengers can easily power their devices.
Burrana CEO, David Withers, said that once fully installed, more than 25,000 passengers on this Latin American airline will be able to charge their devices from their seat.
According to Burrana, the In-seat Power system is a simple installation architecture with minimal components, consisting of a small, lightweight, seat spar kit – housing either double USB jacks or 110V and USB outlets, compact seat power boxes, and harnesses. Product support and spares management will also be provided within South America.
“Our design and installation approach requires only minimal aircraft downtime and offers a streamlined certification solution with a supplemental type certificate, without any additional dynamic seat testing,” stated Withers.
