Aircraft seating giant, Recaro is presenting three new seat designs at Aircraft Interiors Expo. The company has developed two new seats for economy class which aim to combine comfort with light weight, as well as a concept seat that should do the same for business class.
The CL3710 and SL3710 are the two new economy class seats. The former is aimed squarely at improving sleeping comfort on board using three new comfort elements that improve body posture, ability to change sleeping positions and reduce pressure points. For this innovation, the company won a Crystal Cabin Award at this year’s event.
The Abrazo headrest gives additional side support to the head, while the extended seat bottom option supports the upper and parts of the lower legs. This increases the size of the seating surface and reduces pressure points. Finally, the flip cushion helps to support the lower lumbar area in a cradle or sleeping position.
The SL3710’s mission, meanwhile, is to keep costs and weight low, at just 8kg. Through changes to the seat cushion, the seat pan and the seat structure itself, Recaro achieved major weight reductions. Its slim backrest design creates more living space per passenger, while still allowing the carrier to adopt higher-density seat layouts.
It doesn’t stop at installation, either, as the new seat is designed to keep maintenance costs low in two important ways: it has a predefined recline and shares components with the BL3710.
In the luxury segment, Recaro also introduced the CL6710 Next Generation business class seat concept. It aims to create a mini-suite sensation with increased living space and styling with high-quality trim & finish materials.
The optional sliding doors and individually adjustable settings allow passengers to personalize their seating experience above the clouds and create a new dimension of privacy. While the optimized seat kinematics and cushion comfort offer an ergonomically superior design, the generous and versatile stowage creates more space for all personal belongings.
In other Recaro news this week, the company has announced that it is continuing its successful partnership with flagship Portuguese airline, TAP Portugal. The airline has recently appointed Recaro as its preferred seat supplier for its new fleet of 25 Airbus A320/A321s. The new aircraft will be the first to feature Recaro’s new SL3710 lightweight economy class seat. With this order TAP will have another worldwide premiere, as these cabins will be the first equipped with a combination of Recaro’s SL3710 and BL3710 seats.
