Aircraft cabin lighting company, Schott has received the German Innovation Award in the Lighting Solutions category for the concept and performance of its HelioJet SpectrumCC system. The LED cabin lighting system, which is flying with Lufthansa and SAS, won the category against competition from some 650 other entries.
“This LED lighting system, which was specially developed for aircraft cabins, provides maximum homogenous lighting and color stability for a broad range of lighting scenarios, including exact brand colors”, stated the German Design Council in its explanatory notes. “This groundbreaking system also uses considerably fewer LEDs, thus cutting costs.”
HelioJet technology feeds in light from both sides into an optical light converter. A unique sensor system measures and regulates each LED, ensuring even light distribution and color stability throughout the entire cabin over the entire lifetime of the unit. According to Schott, HelioJet is the only system in which lamps can be replaced.
Dr Armin Plichta, Schott’s director of aviation & automotive business, accepted the award at a ceremony in Berlin on June 6th, where he stated, “We have an LED lighting system that is very different from the rest. And we are very excited that the jury rewarded our unique product layout and extraordinary performance”.
