Role summary
• Accountable to the Head of Engineering Research & Design, the Mechanical Design Engineer will assist in the ongoing maintenance and upgrade of existing designs.
• In addition, the Mechanical Design Engineer will also be required to assist in the creation, development and product readiness of new products for aircraft interior lighting
• Initially, this role has no direct reports. Training and mentoring will be provided

Main duties and responsibilities:
New product development
• Supports the definition and delivery of competitive validated designs and technical solutions that satisfy the project goal of delivery against the defined requirements
• Works to ensure all engineering project deliverables meet their quality, design budget and delivery targets

Sustaining engineering
• Follows configuration management processes and identifies solutions where product or process falls short of such requirements
• Follow new product introduction procedures and best practices
• Promotes an environment of continuous improvement
• Provides the manufacturing process timely support as and when required

Key experience/skills

• Experience operating in an engineering role, with responsibilities for delivery to schedule and quality against defined requirements
• CAD / Solidworks experience
• Experience of working to tight timescales, to meet key exacting deadlines
• An understanding of the complete Engineering Development Lifecycle
• Understanding of Health & Safety compliance
• Experience of design foi Injectiom Moulding solutions
• Good understanding of Design for Manufacture
 Strong numerical and verbal ability

• Experience in design for regulated environments
• Experience of Adobe packages, especially Illustrator
• Experience of designing for Extrusion and Sheet metal solutions
• Knowledge of AS9100 compliance and operating environment
• Aerospace exposure/awareness
• Degree qualified in relevant technical competency or equivalent and experience in appropriate field
• Requiring limited supervision with good personal time management
• Flexibility in dealing with changing priorities
• Ability to work under pressure
• Use of MS Excel, Word and Outlook to intermediate level
• Experience of designing in ae Electronic Product Development environment
